Step-by-step guide

Simplify geometries before upload, use KMZ instead of KML for large files, and split regional datasets into multiple layers. AccEarth will warn you when a file is large and offer to simplify it for you.

GeoJSON for web apps and modern GIS, KML/KMZ for Google Earth compatibility, GPX for GPS tracks and field surveys. Convert Shapefile and GeoTIFF to a web-friendly format before upload.

Always use WGS84 (EPSG:4326). Include metadata and feature names. Test files in desktop GIS first. Remove unnecessary attributes to reduce file size.

Files that will not upload: check the extension and size. Features that will not display: verify the coordinate system. Slow maps: simplify the geometries and split the file into smaller regions.
